bridge History

The Robbins family established the Hama Hama Company in 1922. At that time, the family decided to spell the name of the company 'Hama Hama' rather than the more common Hamma Hamma, or even the rare, Huma Huma.

The company experimented with dairy farming in the 1940s, and now raises grass-fed beef, and farms christmas trees in the river valley. In 1957, the company began growing Pacific oysters on 400 acres of tideflats at the mouth of the river. Some years later we added clams to our seafood basket. The retail store was opened in 1965, under the management of Myrtle Swearingen, known locally by the "handle" she used on her CB radio (as) the "Hama Hama Oyster Mama." To this day, the family owns and operates the oyster business, supplying some of the finest boutique oysters and clams in North America.
